Just 5 years ago On a trip to Indonesia, the monster which is now Jocasi took shape. We met a local Artisan who told us, over a few Bintangs, an interesting story...
It was regarding an iconic and practical style of bag which the local fisherman had used for hundreds of years. Before motorbikes, and cars, they had to travel to the coast to go fishing, then bring their catch back in this specially designed bamboo bag called a KEPIS which, due to its boat shaped design, allowed the fish to be kept aired and fresh for their long arduous return journey.
With the help of our friend, we adapted the shape using leather. On our return to our homecity, London, we took the bag, along with our other designs which had been selling in boutiques, to
T O P S H O P Oxford Street. The undisputed No1 fashion store in the world. What an amazing store.
Don’t ask me why, but they decided to take a gamble on us. The kepis was a smash. We were spotted by top brass, who liked what they saw and promoted us to the ground floor.
